WELCOME to BERRYFIELD DRESSAGE

Nestled on 30 private acres in the woods of Lincoln with direct access to the Lincoln trail system, Berryfield combines a peaceful setting with a long-standing equestrian heritage. Thoughtfully reimagined as a premier dressage facility, the farm features spacious paddocks, a heated indoor arena, and a full-size outdoor dressage arena designed to support both horse and rider.

Betsy Dangel, Owner & Athlete

Betsy Dangel’s lifelong dream was simple: to look out her window and see horses grazing peacefully in their fields, surrounded by gardens and trees. In 2021, she and her husband, Gary Mitchell, made that dream a reality when they made Berryfield Farm their home and established Berryfield Dressage, naming Callie O’Connell as their trainer.

An amateur-owner dressage rider and passionate advocate for the sport, Betsy earned her United States Dressage Federation Bronze Medal in 2022 and is currently pursuing her Silver Medal. Her dedication to her team, clients, and horses along with her commitment to continual learning shapes the philosophy of Berryfield Dressage. She is deeply committed to creating an environment where horses and riders can thrive, blending exceptional care, thoughtful training, and the warmth that defines the farm. Betsy continues to grow her vision for Berryfield Dressage.

Betsy is President of Investment Properties Ltd. in Newton Centre. Together, she and Gary, owner of the S & S Restaurant, share a deep appreciation for family, hospitality, and community. They are proud parents and grandparents and share the farm with their flat-coated retriever, Tatsu, who happily greets visitors right at their car door.

Callie O'Connell, Trainer & Athlete

Callie is a 2021 graduate of Massachusetts College of Art and Design, where she earned her BFA in Fashion Design. Her senior thesis, Pas de Deux, was inspired by her love of dressage and ballet. Photos of Callie’s designs are proudly displayed in the Berryfield indoor arena.

Callie began riding at age five and has been a dedicated student of dressage since she was eight years old. She is a USDF Bronze, Silver, and Gold Medalist with Distinction, as well as a USDF Certified Instructor. Prior to joining Berryfield, Callie spent six years as a working student and assistant trainer for Jane Karol at Bear Spot Farm.

Callie’s philosophy is rooted in building thoughtful, trusting partnerships with each horse, allowing them to develop with confidence at a pace that supports both their physical strength and mental well-being.

Callie is currently focused on developing Franky di Fonteabeti to the Grand Prix level, while also training the other horses owned by Ruling Cortes LLC. In addition, she works closely with the clients and horses at Berryfield, helping each partnership progress toward its individual goals. Looking ahead, Callie hopes to once again represent the United States in international competition. Learn more
